Brett鈥檚 interest in machining began in high school, but after graduating he worked a variety of jobs including carpet cleaning and as grocery clerk before he learned about NCC’s boot camp from a relative. The opportunity to get into the trades and start working with his hands was appealing, as was the program鈥檚 connection with employers eager to hire.聽聽
The bootcamp is free for students, thanks to the support of a New England Submarine Shipbuilding Partnership, Powered by SENEDIA 鈥� The Alliance for Defense Tech, Talent, and Innovation and Granite State Manufacturing. Students learn basic machining, along with an introduction to Mastercam, Solidworks and G and M Code programming.聽They also learn basic CNC Mill and Lathe setup, operation, and programming.
Graduation for the current group of students is set for April 11, and students have already toured several industry partners, including Granite State Manufacturing, C&M Precision Tech, MIT Lincoln Labs, and Sig Sauer. Some students have already landed job offers. 聽聽
The most recent tour was at C&M Precision Tech in Hudson, New Hampshire. 鈥淭he tour was great, we got to see all their new machines and what they鈥檙e making, we learned a lot,鈥� Brett reported. C&M Precision Tech is a veteran and family-owned business, supplying precision engineered and manufactured metal and plastic parts and components.
Students also recently toured Sig Sauer in Exeter, a leading firearms manufacturer that supplies law enforcement and the military.
For anyone is considering the Precision Manufacturing Boot Camp, Brett advised them to 鈥渄ive into it headfirst.鈥�
鈥淚t鈥檚 a lot to take in at first 鈥� you鈥檙e fitting all this schooling into about 2 months 鈥� but the professors are great, they are right there with us.鈥�
Beyond the boot camp, Brett said industry partners like Granite State Manufacturing set new hires up with mentors to help graduates continue to build their skills on the job.

The next 10-week/400-hour session begins Monday, April 21. Classes run 8:00 am -4:30 pm, Monday 鈥� Friday, and there is no cost to sign up. No prerequisite credential is necessary, but a Mechanical Aptitude is helpful for success.
